What is your Alabama Connection?
Born in Mobile, AL, went to Murphy High School, was the APF Powerlifting Association Chairmen, Former strength coach- University of Alabama and Shelton State and did strength and speed consulting with other high schools in Alabama.
Current pursuits in life & powerlifting:
Restorative strength and mobility as well as all strength and conditioning. Working with beginning athletes to 90 plus year old athletes. I am currently judging push/pulls, bench press contests and occasional full meets in Alabama and Georgia.
Lifting History:
When did you start weightlifting and what inspired you to start weightlifting?
Won the bigger, faster stronger weight lifting competition at 16 years old, 205 pounds. Bench pressed 335 pounds, squatted 555 and deadlifted 480. Noah Addison was a strength coach at UMS Preparatory School and took me through my first bench press max and other powerlifting maxes. My second influence was Dewey Skidmore, assistant strength coach at Alabama, He was a competitor from North Carolina- bench press only. I went to my first meet in Scottsboro , Al and won my first 1st place contest at 242 pounds and then another influence was Myles Wetzel who convinced me to compete in full power lifting meets instead of just bench. He became one of my first training partner.
When did you get involved with powerlifting and what got you interested in the sport?
In 1995 in Scottsboro, AL- Kramer's Gym meet. My first 400 plus bench press

What’s the highest score you achieved? 541.25
What are some of your powerlifting accomplishments?
Being invited to the Mountaineer Cup Meet and competing against Ed Coan . Competing in the first WPO meet. Making United States weight lifting team in 1999 and 2000. Beating Paul Childers at Iron Island, placing first at 275, as well as a first place in APF Southern States. My first 800 pound squat in Maine and my final meet 2005 APF Senior Nationals where I squatted 881 and would bench 650 afterwards. It was the best subtotal of my career.
Who are some of the most memorable lifters/people for you in your career?
Jon Grove, Scott Albano, Training with Steve Goggins and Jon Grove at North Georgia Barbell as well as Scott Albano, my long time training partner from Tuscaloosa. Miles Wetzel, and all the Tuscaloosa, AL lifters.
With your name as part of the history of powerlifting in Alabama, what would you like to be most remembered for?
Being a follower of Christ
What words of wisdom would you like to pass down to future powerlifters?
Put God first and then family. Take your time and enjoy the ride,
What are some of your contributions to sport of powerlifting in Alabama?
APF State Chairman, APF National Judge, being both a head judge and side judge at several meets, assisting in several high school meets, all federations plus non sanctioned meets.
