Rules Governing the Board

The Board of Directors will be comprised of a Chairman and as many as nine board members.

The term of the Chairman will be a two year term. He/She may be elected to as many two year terms as they are willing to serve. The Chairman will be voted on by the Board of Directors and confirmed by a 70% vote of the sitting board members.

The Board of Directors will also choose a Vice Chairman from out of the nine remaining Board members and confirmed by a 70% vote of the Chairman and remaining Board members.

The term of the Vice Chairman will be a two year term. He/She may be elected to as many two years as they are willing to serve.

New board members will be approved by a 70% of the sitting board members.

The term of the board members will be one year (twelve months). The board members will be allowed to serve as many one years terms as they are willing to serve.

The Hall of Fame Chairman and Board of Directors vote on new rules or rule changes and must pass by a vote of 70% of the sitting board for the change to go in effect.

The Chairman, Vice Chairman, Board members and advisors do not have to be members of the Hall of Fame to serve on the Board of Directors. However, it is recommended that they are a lifter or contributor to the sport in the state of Alabama.

If a current sitting member of the board is not a member of the Hall of Fame and meets the criteria for consideration and is considered by the board for induction, they will not be allowed to participate in their vote.

The Chairman can nominate up to three advisors.

The advisors will be approved by the Chairman. The advisors can only vote on inductees and not on rule changes. They do advise the board on rule changes and help the board with the direction of the Hall of Fame.

The board approved for up to 10 total inductee’s per year. The categories are divide into lifters and contributors. The total number of lifters that can be inducted is 8 and contributors are 2. The potential inductee’s will be voted on by the Chairman, sitting board members and advisors and must be approved by 70% of the board.

For the purpose of voting on potential inductees to the Hall of Fame at the annual meeting, the Chairman of the Board or the Vice Chairman in the absence of the Chairman, can declare a quorum of the present Hall of Fame board members. A board member can submit a vote by proxy as long as the vote is received by the Chairman prior to the annual meeting.

Lifters or contributors who are being considered under the posthumous specific guidelines are not counted toward the potential 10 annual inductee’s.

If a board member misses 2 consecutive annual meetings without cause, he/she has effectively stepped down and removed themselves from the Board of Directors of the Hall of Fame. The Board is then free to nominate and vote on a new member to replace them.

Past Chairmen of the Board will carry the title of Chairman Emeritus. They are considered non-voting lifetime advisors to the Board of Directors and have an open invitation to all board meetings and events. If a past Chairman would like to serve on the board again and the board agrees to vote them back on they can become a voting board member again.

The Board of Directors will work to maintain and keep up the biographies of those lifter in the Hall of Fame who still compete. Those who were inducted in an odd year will be updated the odd years and like wise the even year inductees on the even years. For those lifters and contributors who have ended their career will have an (R) by their name to signify retired.

The Board of Directors will maintain oversight and direction on charity work and fund raising to support the viability of the Hall of Fame.
