ABOUT THE HALL OF FAME
The Alabama Powerlifting Hall of Fame is the initial brainchild of Casey Dunaway. He wanted a way to permanently honor the great lifters and contributors of the sport of powerlifting from the past, the present and those who will carry the sport into the future. Casey created the Hall of Fame in 2018 in Tuscaloosa, AL with the help and advice of other long-time lifters from Alabama and he chose Ted Butler to be the Hall of Fame's first Chairman.
The first class was inducted in 2019 and including that class there have been many great lifters and contributors inducted into the Hall of Fame. Each year the Board of Directors take applications and vote on potential new inductees to the Hall of Fame. Following Casey's vision, we want to be an organization who continues to recognize and honor the incredible strength accomplishments of the great men and women in the sport of powerlifting here in Alabama
The Classes of 2019 and 2020 were used by the board as "catch up" years to honor those "old School" lifters who were deemed Hall of Fame worthy. Prior to the Class of 2025, there were slightly different criteria and guidelines for induction. New criteria and guideline began to be discussed by the board in 2024. Then in 2025 Jon Grove, the owner and captain of the North Georgia Barbell Club (NGBB) shared his brainstorm idea of a point system for induction to a hall of fame. That idea began to be worked out to bring about the criteria, guidelines and applications we have today.
Anyone can nominate a lifter and/or contributor and anyone can be nominated. The nominee must meet certain criteria to be considered by Board for the Hall of Fame. Please, see the Guidelines & Application page for the specific information required to be considered by the Board for the Alabama Powerlifting Hall of Fame.
