What is your Alabama Connection?

Born here and have lived her my whole life.

Current pursuits in life & powerlifting:

I’m the pastor of New Hope Baptist Church. I work with Inner Faith Help Centers and Food Pantry. I still workout to stay in shape but I don’t compete anymore.

Lifting History:

When did you start weightlifting and what inspired you to start weightlifting?

I started lifting after high school in 1968. My friend, Ronnie Dwaaim, inspired me to start weightlifting.

When did you get involved with powerlifting and what got you interested in the sport?

That same friend that inspired me to start weightlifting entered a benchpress contest combined with a powerlifting meet and got me to do it with him.

Do you have a powerlifting nick name, if so what is it and how did you get it?

Yes, Simba after an elephant with that name.

Brother Bennett who was the 1st President of the ADFPA.

Mike Foggia, my best friend who now lives in Des Moines, Iowa

 

With your name as part of the history of powerlifting in Alabama, what would you like to be most remembered for?

My Christian values: love, joy, peace and patience.

 

What words of wisdom would you like to pass down to future powerlifters?

Don’t get discouraged and keep on pressing. Remember people are more important than winning titles.
