What is your Alabama Connection?
Live here all my life
Current pursuits in life & powerlifting:
I am retired and am currently completing my third major novel in the Portersville Trilogy. I live with my wife, Brenda, on 9 acres which we work to maintain. Between writing, speaking, and book signing, we fish, travel and enjoy grandkids (ages 23 – 25)
Lifting History:
When did you start weightlifting and what inspired you to start powerlifting?
I began lifting in competition at age 40 in Master Division. I began coaching Speical Olympics Powerlifting and worked out with my team.
I had no prior knowledge of the sport until Billy Keel taught me the basics. We coached together for many years. Together we learned that Special Athletes can compete at any level with non special lifters and proved this many times by entering our athletes in USAPL open competitions. Our athletes still hold many Alabama State Powerlifting records as recorded in USAPL records.
What weight class(es) did you compete in? 198, 221, 231
What are your best lifts in each category in each weight class?
My lifts are not relevant to my accomplishments. I hold some Alabama State Records in a variety of age groups and weight classes. Lifting was not my strong point, however.
