What is your Alabama Connection? Born in Selma, Alabama and raised in Alabama. My parents were also born and raised in Alabama.
Current pursuits in life & powerlifting:
Retired from FedEx Express as a Senior Manager. Gym owner ( Bigdog Gym ) in Bryant , Arkansas. 2nd degree Black Belt in Ju-Jitsu , Sambo and catch wrestling. State and National champion in Bodybuilding. Trainer and coach in Fitness , Bodybuilding and sports for the last 25 years.
Lifting History:
When did you start weightlifting and what inspired you to start weightlifting?
1978. Self -started to get bigger and stronger for sports.
When did you get involved with powerlifting and what got you interested in the sport?
High schools contest (1980) . I have always been a competitor and aways had/have goals to be the best I can possibly be.
Do you have a powerlifting nick name, if so what is it and how did you get it?
My nick name is DD. I was given that name by my dad when I was a small child.
What weight class(es) did you compete in? In High school 165/181/198/220 after HS it was 275

Who are some of the most memorable lifters/people for you in your career?
Ed Coan – Very honest and Great lifter. O.D. Wilson good guy that was humble. I meet him in Kansas City Jr Nationals in 1986 when he first started ( think he only totaled 1700 or so that day) RIP my brother.
With your name as part of the history of powerlifting in Alabama, what would you like to be most remembered for?
Always have great Character, Be humble and set a good Example for others.
What words of wisdom would you like to pass down to future powerlifters?
Study the game – learn proper form and methods before hurting yourself . Always have a plan to reach your GOALS. Adjust plan as needed not the GOALS.
What are some of your contributions to sport of powerlifting?
State Chair, Meet Director and pertinent meets, Judge & level & Feds, ways you contributed to other meets (announcer, score table, spot/loader, expediter)
I put on many meets in Arkansas from 2001-2012
